For All Mankind
Apollo Space Program - NASA
"We came in peace, for all mankind." 21 minutes, Mp3
From the plaque left on the moon by the crew of Apollo 11
Excerpts from interviews of the more articulate Apollo astronauts,
largely on the experience of exploring the moon, what it felt like to be in space,
what it meant, as a human being.
Gene Cernan, Harrison Schmitt, Michael Collins, perhaps one or two other astronauts
Recorded from several sources, some segments from old VHS tapes, I apologize for what is admittedly poor quality at times. Only 12 human beings have ever stood on the moon. What they have to say needs weighing and reflecting on, now more so than ever, forty years after the first Apollo landing. I put this Mp3 together for my own use, listening to it many times, and then thought perhaps other people might also find it interesting and worth pondering.
See The Argument for an epic poem I'm working on, "The Parliament of Poets," which takes place partly on the moon, at the Apollo 11 landing site, the Sea of Tranquility.
Excerpts from
