"To be a Bahai simply means to love all the world; to
love humanity and try to serve it; to work for universal peace and universal
brotherhood." -- Abdu'l-Baha
"The Bahai
Movement is not an organization. You cannot organize the Bahai
Movement. The Bahai Movement is the spirit of the age. It is the
essence of all the highest ideals of this century. The Bahai Cause
is an inclusive movement. The teachings of all religions and
societies are found here. Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Mohammadans,
Zoroastrians, Theosophists, Freemasons, Spiritualists, etc., find
their highest aims in this Cause, Socialists and philosophers find
their theories fully developed in this movement" --Abdu'l-Baha
"This movement
eludes organization -- it is the realization of a new spirit. The
foundation of that spirit is the love of God; and its method, the
love and service of mankind. Many who have never heard of this
revelation teach its laws and spiritual truths. These people are
performing what Baha'u'llah hath commanded though they never heard
of him. The power of Baha'u'llah's words is compelling -- therefore,
you
must know and love them. For instance, in the spring season trees
burst forth into verdure, though they are not conscious of the
sunshine, of the falling rain or the gentle breeze -- nevertheless,
the power of nature urges them on to yield forth their fruits." --Abdu'l-Baha
"There are no
officers in this Cause. I do not and have not 'Appointed' anyone to
perform any special service, but I encourage everyone to engage in
the service of the Kingdom. The foundation of this Cause is pure
spiritual democracy and not a theocracy." --Abdu'l-Baha. Star of
the West. Page 116. August 20, 1917.
"No one can
bottle up the Bahai Spirit. The Bahai Spirit is the most illusive
ether; it is here, it is there, it is everywhere. It is the
origin and substance of the highest ideals of this and the coming
ages. The Bahai Spirit is undogmatic, super-racial, inter-social and
non-partisan. The Bahai Religion is not an exclusive society, but a
Divine congregation, the dome of which is the Infinite Heaven, and
the temple of which is the expanse of the earth." --Abdu'l-Baha
